Did You Know? GALLAGHER'S HOPE

Did You Know?

  • Isabelle Rousseau came to Montana to be a schoolteacher in the 1890's, but did you know that Montana's first school opened it's doors in Virginia City in 1865? The teacher was one Sarah Raymond.

  • Isabelle hailed from New Orleans where her family lived after the Civil War, though they were originally of French decent. They lived in the Garden District, which was fitting because at the time the Rousseaus were a prosperous family. "The area was originally developed between 1832 and 1900 and is considered one of the best-preserved collections of historic southern mansions in the United States." (Wikipedia)
